Supernova: Experimental Studio For Girls
Supernova is an experimental pop-up studio for girls and women of all-ages to connect and exchange ideas, get inspired and learn new skills. Harnessing the meaning of SDG 5, achieving gender equality and empowering all women and girls, Supernova aims to empower more young women and girls by developing their skills as next-generation of purpose-driven innovators. Supernova will kicked-off on October 29 during Immerse Innovation Week. Girls between the ages of 12 and 15 participated in workshops on the topic of Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM). The aim of the first Supernova session was to stimulate girls to seek careers in STEM fields. Over 60 girls between the ages of 12 and 15 from various middle schools participated in interactive fireside chats of Aruban women in the STEM fields that currently are making an impact on the island and internationally. Furthermore, the girls did various rapid workshops with topics such as science, technology, engineering, and creative thinking. Dividing the groups into more manageable groups of 20 girls each group focused on one SDG that they related more with and had to come up with an innovative idea to solve current challenges of the chosen SDG.
